安徽建省于清朝康熙六年（公元1667年），省名取当时安庆、徽州两府首字合成，因境内有皖山、春秋时期有古皖国而简称皖。
它位于中国中东部，是最具活力的长江三角洲组成部分。全省南北长约570公里，东西宽约450公里。总面积14.01万平方公里，约占中国国土面积的1.45％。根据安徽省2021年国民经济和社会发展统计公报，2021年末全省常住人口6113万人。
安徽现有合肥、淮北、亳州、宿州、蚌埠、阜阳、淮南、滁州、六安、马鞍山、芜湖、宣城、铜陵、池州、安庆、黄山16个地级市，9个县级市、50个县、45个市辖区。
它历史悠久，人文荟萃，山川秀美，区位优越，地理地貌融合中国南北差异，是美丽中国的缩影。
Anhui is located in the eastern part of China. It is an integral part of the country’s most economically dynamic region—the Yangtze River Delta. It is about 570 km from south to north and 450 km from east to west, covering an area of 140.1 thousand square kilometers, about 1.45 percent of the total area of the country. At the end of 2021, the total number of permanent residents in Anhui was 61.13 million.
